What happens on the day?

On arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed and meet your volunteer for the day. Start with an introduction to the engine and a safety briefing, before preparing the engine which includes learning engine and fire management. You’ll then take a quick break for lunch in which a meal will be provided, consisting of typically a hot pot or hearty soup. After lunch, with the engine raising steam, it is time for steering and driving of the engine. Along the way, you’ll learn plenty of transferable skills. The day will end with putting the engine to bed and you’ll receive a certificate.
